Bay Nature Talk: Ocean Issue
Description
Join us online for a special Bay Nature Talk on Wednesday, December 11 from 7pm – 8pm with former Bay Nature digital editor Eric Simons and UC Davis researcher, Tessa Hill, guest editors for Bay Nature’s ocean edition this fall. Eric and Tessa will share their insights on this special ocean issue, diving into the topics featured in its pages as well as their co-written book, At Every Depth: Our Growing Knowledge of the Changing Oceans, which highlights the ways people are working to safeguard the future as oceans continue to change. Eric and Tessa will discuss themes from both the magazine and their book, as well as some of the stories that didn’t make it into print. Kate Golden, Bay Nature’s digital editor, will moderate this talk.
December 11, 7:00 – 8:00pm via Zoom. Free for Bay Nature members, $5 for nonmembers.
Meet your speakers:
Eric Simons is a former digital editor at Bay Nature. He is author of The Secret Lives of Sports Fans and Darwin Slept Here, and is coauthor, with Tessa Hill, of At Every Depth: Our Growing Knowledge of the Changing Oceans.
Tessa Hill, a professor at UC Davis, has taught classes on oceanography and climate change for over a decade. Her love of the ocean started as a child on the cobble beaches of Puget Sound, in Tacoma, Washington. Her career as an oceanographer has taken her to the North Atlantic, the Oregon Coast, Gulf of Mexico, and the California coast. But she is happiest perched along a bluff outside Bodega Marine Laboratory on a sunny day.
