Bay Nature Hike: Alhambra Hills
Description

This event is inspired by this Fall 2025 piece Walking in John Muir’s Footsteps at Alhambra Hills Open Space, by Aleta George
Join Bay Nature and Jamie Fox for a hike at Alhambra Hills Open Space on Saturday, November 15 from 9am - 11:30am. This 297-acre preserve—including land once owned by John Muir—was once slated for development. But, after 12 years of grassroots organizing led by Jamie Fox it was saved, and it opened to the public in February 2025. This open space features the highest ridgeline in Martinez, surrounded by oak trees, California buckeye, laurel, and more. With a peak elevation of 698 feet, the ridge features a 360-degree view of Mount Diablo, Mount Wanda and the Franklin Ridge, Briones Regional Park, and more. Join to hike this gorgeous open space with Jamie Fox! Tickets are free for Bay Nature Members.
Meet Your Hike Leaders:
Jamie Fox led the Save Alhambra Hills Open Space, and he led a coalition to save Alhambra Hills Open Space. Fox found an 1894 parcel map showing that Muir had once owned a portion of the land, which proved pivotal for conserving the landscape.
