The Bay Nature Membership Program: What You Need To Know

Q: What is the news?

A: On January 30, 2024, Bay Nature launched a new membership program that unites our essential San Francisco Bay Area nature community.

Q: Do I need to do anything right now?

A: No. As a current Bay Nature magazine subscriber, you are considered a Founding Member and there is no need to do anything at this time. 

Q: What is the biggest change I need to know about?

A: Starting on January 30, 2024, a Bay Nature magazine “subscription” will become a Bay Nature “membership” with these annual benefits:

• Four quarterly issues of Bay Nature magazine print and digital editions.

• Free access to Bay Nature guided hikes.

• Free access to Bay Nature online seminars.

• Bay Nature weekly email newsletter.

• Special member rates to the Local Hero Awards and other ticketed events.

Q. Is Bay Nature magazine changing?

A: Rest assured that the Bay Nature magazine you know and love isn’t changing. What you can expect are more opportunities to experience stories after reading them, deepening our connections with local nature and each other.

Together, we’ll take more hikes to explore habitats and ecosystems. Conduct more forums to speak with experts in the field. And visit more project sites where cutting edge work occurs.

Q: Will my current Bay Nature magazine subscription terms change?

A: No. The terms of your current subscription will not change as it becomes a membership. You will continue to receive your Bay Nature magazine as you have before, at the same price, and you will be able to renew by mail, phone, or online.

Q: How much will my membership cost when I renew?

A: As a current Bay Nature magazine subscriber, you are a Founding Member. When your current membership expires, you will have $30 annual dues to renew, a discounted rate you can preserve by electing automatic renewal moving forward.

Q: How do I access my new member benefits?

A: Explore your Bay Nature membership by visiting our new Member Portal.

If you have an existing account associated with your email address, all you need to do is create a new password. If you do not have an existing account associated with your email address, you will need to create new login credentials.

From there, you will be able to log in to access your account, update your contact information, renew your membership, give gift memberships, and read your Bay Nature digital edition.

Q: How do I register for Bay Nature Hikes and Bay Nature Talks?

A: Registration information will be shared as each event is announced.

Q. Can I customize my membership experience by choosing, for example, to receive a mailed magazine, elect paperless communications, or manage my email preferences? 

A. Yes. We plan to add this functionality to the Member Portal later this year.

Q: Is my current subscriber account hosted on baynature.org going away?

A: Yes. Current subscribers need to create a new account on the Member Portal. If you have already created an account in our legacy system, you can simply create a new password by using your existing email address. 

Q: I subscribe to the digital edition. Will I still be able to access my digital editions and the digital edition archive?

A: Yes. Digital editions of Bay Nature magazine are accessible in the Member Portal.
